Wallets

Hold the currency, not just the dollars

A wallet lets you convert when the rate is good and send later. Open one in about ten seconds — free, no minimum, close it whenever.

Why hold a wallet

Three reasons people open one

  • Lock a good rate for good

Convert when the rate suits you and the naira is yours. Send it next week at the rate you got today — the lock never expires once converted.

  • A local account number

A naira wallet comes with a Nigerian account number. Family can pay naira straight in, and it lands in under a minute, free.

  • Send at weekends

Money already in a local wallet pays out instantly, even when US banks are closed and card payments would still be clearing.

Receiving

Your own Nigerian account number

Open a naira wallet and we issue a real account in your name at a partner bank. Share it like any account number — family transfers naira in, it lands in under a minute, and there is no fee to receive.

It works the other way too: if you earn in naira, that income can land here and convert to dollars at our published rate rather than a bureau's.

Wallet questions

What does a wallet cost?

Nothing. There is no fee to open one, no minimum balance, no monthly fee, and no charge to convert between your own wallets. You can close a wallet any time; the balance moves to your USD wallet at the current rate.

How many can I have?

One per currency, and we support 24 currencies today. Most people keep USD plus the one or two currencies they send to.

Is money in a wallet insured?

Your USD balance is held at our partner bank and is FDIC-insured up to $250,000. Local-currency balances are held with our licensed partners in each market and are segregated from company funds, but they are not FDIC-insured — FDIC coverage is a US-dollar protection.

What is the local account number, exactly?

A real account in your name at a partner bank in that country — Providus Bank for naira, for example. Anyone local can transfer to it as they would to any Nigerian account. It is the simplest way for family to send money to you, or for you to receive local income.
